Ten Things You Should Know About Mrs. Coulter

1. I graduated from Canton High School in 1996 and Western Illinois University in 2000, and I've been teaching at IB since BEFORE I graduated.

2. I use what I learned in my high school English classes in my real life. I love to read, but my real passion is writing. I often blog about people and events in my life, so if this "Ten Things" list just isn't enough, and you're simply dying to know more about me, click here.

3. My son, Owen Benjamin Coulter, is the cutest, funniest and best kid in the universe, and he is the love of my life, my greatest joy.

4. My husband, Neil, is a builder. He is very tall, very funny, and is runner-up in the love of my life contest (it’s a close race, but Owen always wins).

5. I firmly believe that guilt and regret are enormous wastes of time, so I refuse to expend energy on those two emotions.

6. Things I Love:

Dessert – Lemon Bars
Music – Ben Folds, Pearl Jam
Books – To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris, Bossypants by Tina Fey.
TV Shows: Parks and Rec, American Pickers, Salvage Dawgs

7. If I could choose any one place in the whole wide world that I'd rather be right now, I would be seated on my front porch with my son, enjoying a summer time tradition we invented calls Popsicle time, which is pretty much just hanging out on the porch eating Popsicles, and it's my favorite.

8. I cannot and will not tolerate people who are dishonest. Ever.

9. I enjoy teaching high school students because I tend to get along with them well. I can count on ONE HAND the number of times I've given a detention throughout my teaching career (That's 16 years!). With that said, there are two things that will get you in trouble in my class: Dishonesty and not coming to class prepared. Consider yourselves warned.

10. My favorite quote is by Leonard Cohen and it says, “Ring the bells that still will ring; Forget your perfect offering. There’s a crack, a crack in everything; That’s how the light gets in.”
